Situational Awareness For Everyone & Personal Safety Education - SAFESavesLives

30 School Shootings including Oxford, Michigan in 2021.

Tragedies can be Reduced with Better Situational Awareness.

Oxford Township, Michigan, is home to the Wildcats and the most recent school shooting, which resulted in the deaths of four students and injured six more, including a teacher. Students were forced to evacuate the school on November 30th. In the video below, students recorded themselves hiding in a classroom while communicating with someone outside the door who was pretending to be the police but was actually 15 year old Ethan Crumbly, the student responsible for what is now the 30th school shooting of 2021. 17-year-old Madisyn Baldwin, 14-year-old Hana St. Juliana, 16-year-old Tate Myre, and 17-year-old Justin Shilling succumbed to their injuries after the shooting.

Although gun violence is becoming increasingly common, gun control has been slow to change. Most schools don’t have enough safety measures to eradicate gun violence. Safety drills and other security measures are not always enough to keep kids safe. As shown in the video, the kids were very hesitant to open the door for the person on the other side. Caution and situational awareness played a crucial part in saving their lives. The kids in that classroom used their best judgment and understood that the person’s use of the word “Bro” was a red flag since a professional police officer most likely would not use that word. If the kids had been naive and opened the door at the gunman’s request, things would have turned out differently

Some Students Saw the Red Flag, Preventing Further Tragedy

Safety and situational awareness should be taken seriously in every environment. Finding a convenient way to protect yourself in a moment of danger is a must. It is always essential to have an escape route, a way to call the police if you can’t reach your phone, and most importantly, the knowledge to share with others. People often let their guard down when they know they are in a friendly community with a reputation for being safe. Learning to recognize a threat may seem easy, but it takes specific knowledge and training to learn behaviors and other signals most people would miss. Most importantly, training your instincts can help you respond to a threat quickly and efficiently.

Safety courses like S.A.F.E Saves Lives allow you to train yourself and your family to be aware of your surroundings, identify possible danger, and learn the best techniques to protect yourselves. S.A.F.E. also provides an array of gadgets that pose as ambiguous objects but are actually stun guns, mace, and alarms that will automatically dial 911 in case of an emergency. S.A.F.E.’s personal safety course involves all aspects of self-reliance regarding safety. With a 30-day money-back guarantee, S.A.F.E. can provide you with the peace of mind to remain safe at school, work, church, and even at home. By taking a course, you learn how to watch people, assess their behavior, and eliminate an issue before it develops. S.A.F.E. teaches the entire family essential tactics that could mean life or death.

Thankfully, the above video shows how capable young people can be during a crisis. No one is ever too young to learn how to protect themselves. The kids in the video were aware of the danger, recognized a potential threat at the door, and escaped once they realized the danger was immediate and directly on the other side. The S.A.F.E. Saves Lives course teaches these skills and more. These unfortunate situations are happening more often, making personal safety knowledge necessary.
